Ben Slater welcomed Peter and Joan Pitman back to the club to share some inspirational ideas for members to create colourful autumn gardens. There was a glorious array of flowering plants and potted shrubs displayed along the front tables which Peter recommended for brightening the autumn garden well into the winter months.

He showcased hanging baskets of pink sedum, mandevillea and dichondra Silver Falls, pots of dwarf lemon trees and the unusual pepino. Pansies, cyclamen, violas and calibrachoa along with fresh herbs were among the many delightful small pots.

Top tips from Peter were to use coffee grounds to deter slugs and snails, spray for citrus gall wasp and boost flower production with sulphate of potash.

The raffle prize of a decorated basket of potted flowers was won by visitor Vivien.
