Karina introduced Lola Coupe from the Geranium and Pelargonium Society. Lola grew up on a farm in north east Victoria and her mother and grandmother were keen gardeners.
Lola’s interest was sparked when she spontaneously attended a Pelargonium show in Frankston. These plants will grow in poor soil, even recycled potting mix. They are easy to grow and don’t need too much water or fertiliser. Lola repots her plants every year or two. Their names come from Greek words for stork and crane.
Prune plants when dry and don’t water them for a couple of days afterwards.
Water cuttings when planting but only sparingly.
Lola demonstrated how to take cuttings and many members took cuttings home to strike. Remove flowers before planting to encourage development of the roots and cut at an angle. March or April are ideal for pruning and planting but Spring is also suitable. They are native to Africa, Turkey and parts of Asia and can be scented, trailing or ground covers.
